Rangiri Dambulla Cave Temple

The Rangiri Dambulla Cave Temple, also known as the Golden Temple of Dambulla, is one of the most revered Buddhist pilgrimage sites in Sri Lanka. This rock-cut monastery, perched atop a 160-meter-high rock, features over 2,000 square meters of murals and more than 150 Buddha statues, making it the largest cave temple in Sri Lanka.

This sacred site has been a center of Buddhist worship for over 2,000 years, with its origins dating back to King Valagamba (Vattagamani Abhaya) in the 1st century BCE. The caves were transformed into a spiritual sanctuary, filled with beautiful frescoes and statues depicting Buddha, Hindu deities, and Sri Lankan kings.
